Troubleshooting Paper Jam and Continuous Printing Issues
Paper jams and continuous printing problems may occur with both thermal and dot‑matrix printers. Fortunately, most issues can be resolved with a few simple checks.
(TM‑T88V Thermal Printer & TM‑U220B Dot‑Matrix Printer)
A) Thermal Printer (TM‑T88V)
Reload the Paper Correctly
- Open the paper cover.
- Make sure the paper roll feeds from underneath toward the cutter.
- Reseat the roll and close the cover firmly.
Incorrect loading is one of the most frequent causes of jams.
Clear a Cutter Jam
If the cutter is stuck or the Error light is flashing:
- Turn the printer OFF
- Open the cutter cover
- Locate the small manual‑feed knob
- Turn the knob until the triangle mark appears (this resets the blade)
- Remove any jammed paper
- Reseat the paper roll and close the cover
⚠ Warning: The thermal print head can be hot after printing. Allow it to cool before touching internal components.
B) Dot‑Matrix Printer (TM‑U220B)
Reload Paper & Close the Cover Firmly
- Ensure the paper is aligned straight in the paper path.
- Closing the cover tightly loose covers can cause feeding issues.
⚠ Avoid placing fingers near the cutter blade.
Autocutter Stuck?
If the cutter doesn't return to its normal position:
- Refer to the printer’s manual for the cutter return/reset procedure
- Once the cutter resets, reload paper and close the cover
Continuous Printing / Printer Won’t Stop Printing
Sometimes the printer keeps feeding paper or printing endlessly. Follow these steps:
Check for Multiple Print Jobs
- Open the computer’s Print Queue in Windows Operating System
- Open Printers & Scanners.
- Select the printer from the list.
- Click to open it.
- Choose Open queue.
- Cancel all unnecessary or repeated print jobs
Close the Printer Cover Tightly
A loosely closed cover—especially on dot‑matrix printers—can cause continuous feeding.
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn the printer OFF
- Wait 5 seconds
- Turn it ON again
This clears minor software or mechanical glitches.
Check the Network Connection (Ethernet Connection)
- Reseat the Ethernet/network cable
- Power cycle both the printer and the network device (if connected directly)
- Try printing again
