How to Restart Print Spooler Service in Windows
When nothing prints or a print job gets stuck, the issue is often caused by a jammed Windows Print Queue. Clearing the print spooler resets Windows printing services and usually resolves the problem. Follow the steps below to fully clear the queue in Windows.
Step‑by‑Step Guide
Close the POS Application
- Before clearing the queue, make sure the POS app is completely closed.
This prevents new print jobs from entering the queue.
Open Windows Services
- Press the Search Icon On the TaskBar
- Type Services
- Click On Services Icon
- The Services window will open
Stop the Print Spooler Service
- Scroll down and find Print Spooler
- Right‑click it
- Select Stop
This will temporarily stop Windows from processing print jobs.
Start the Print Spooler Service Again
- Return to the Services window
- Right‑click Print Spooler
- Select Start
This restarts Windows printing and loads an empty queue.
Reopen the POS App & Test Print
Open your POS application again and try printing a receipt or test page.
