Using a barcode scanner in DPOS helps you speed up order taking and reduce manual entry errors. Follow these steps to properly set up and test a barcode reader in your system.
✅ Log in to DPOS
Sign in using your DPOS username and password.
✅ Create a System Backup
- 
Go to Utilities.
 - 
Click Backup/Restore to save a copy of your current setup.
📌 Tip: Always back up before making system changes. 
✅ Check Global Barcode Settings
- 
Navigate to Maintenance > Global Settings.
 - 
Ensure the following values are present and configured:

Barcode Delay - 
Barcode Delay2 - 
Barcode Delay3 - 
Barcode Timeout 
 - 
 
✅ Prepare Your Scanner
- 
Connect a Windows-compatible USB barcode scanner to your POS terminal.
 - 
Ensure the scanner is recognized by your system.
 
✅ Enable Barcode Reader Setting
- 
Go to Maintenance > Settings.
 - 
Locate and enable the Barcode Reader option in global settings.
 
✅ Assign Barcodes to Items
- 
In Maintenance, select Item Barcode.
 - 
Input and assign barcode numbers to relevant items in your menu.
 
✅ Test the Barcode Function
- 
Open the Order Taking screen.
 - 
Use your barcode scanner to scan a registered item.
 - 
Confirm that the correct item appears on the screen.
 
Note: Item scanning works best for pre-packaged goods like beverages, ready-made desserts, snacks, and confectionery items.

Log in to DPOS
Sign in using your username and password.

Create a Backup 
- Navigate to the Utilities section.

Search for the barcode in the search bar.
Make sure the following category settings are configured.
- Barcode Delay1 (150)
 - Barcode Delay2 (5000)
 - Barcode Delay3 (Blank)
 - Barcode Timeout (1000)

Prepare Your Barcode Scanner 
- Make sure you have a Windows-compatible USB generic barcode scanner connected to your computer. (Example Below)

Enable Barcode Reader Settings
- Go to the Maintenance tab.

- Select Settings.

- Find and enable the Barcode Enable under the global settings.

Assign Barcodes to Items
- In the Maintenance menu, click Item Barcode.

- Select the New button and click the Item Search.

Position your cursor in the Scan field, then scan your item - the value will populate automatically.
Save the Code
Test Barcode Scanning 
- Go to the Order Taking screen.

- Use the barcode scanner to scan an item and verify that it appears correctly in the order list.
 
Note: Multiple items can be scanned consecutively without interruption.
